The WBC members lounge is reopening on Tuesday, Feb 2nd. Hours are Tuesday thru Friday 4-10pm. February special -Happy Hour everyday 4-6pm domestic bottles of beer $1.50 and well mixed drinks $2.50. Finally you can enjoy a beverage with a friend indoors and support youth rowing.
Starting February 1st, the WBC sponsored high school rowing teams are able to begin their winter indoor training at the club. Guidelines have been established by the Board, rowing committee, and ad-hoc COVID reopening committee for the safety of the athletes. Precautions include occupancy limits, spacing of rowing machines, only one team allowed in bldg at a time, enhanced focus on cleaning, and of course social distancing and masks.
This will be the first time in close to a year that the downstairs workout facility will be active with the high school athletes.
As soon as the weather and river allows, we will install the dock to encourage outdoor rowing and training.
Happy New Year to all WBC members and their families. As we roll into 2021 I wanted to touch on a few things happening at the WBC. Before I do that I just wanted to look back and say glad we have gotten through 2020. Along with everyone else we have endured hardships, including not having a spring or summer rowing season, the cancelling of our two high school rowing regattas, having the members’ lounge closed two different periods, and having a substantial reduction in operating income from our leased property.
Glimmers of hope are starting in 2021. On February 1st the downstairs workout facilities will once again be open to our seven high school teams for winter workouts, along with that we are anticipating that the members lounge will also be able to be open on that date. We will be looking to put in the dock as soon as the weather allows us, to promote outdoor activities with the high school teams.
The Board of Directors, along with the Rowing Committee, and ad-hoc Covid Reopening Committee have developed protocols to follow the mandated guidelines and to keep our athletes and members risks to a minimum.
The two high school rowing regattas are scheduled, with the Hebda Cup set for April 24th and the Wy-Hi Regatta set for May 1st. Visiting teams have already confirmed that they will attend the races if allowed.
We are optimistic that things will continue to open up, and that we will be able to uphold our mission of supporting youth rowing in the downriver area.
I hope that when you are comfortable that you make it down to the club to enjoy the members lounge and know that we are working to support our local athletes.
If you would like to donate to the club, please feel free to contact me at email@example.com to discuss. This could include donation of cash, stocks, items, or services.
Thank you for being a member of the WBC.
Wyandotte Boat Club
The Blitzen the Dotte Fun Run/Walk has been a fall tradition since 2008. Thousands of runners and walkers have participated in this fun November event over the years to help raise money for the youth rowing programs sponsored by the Wyandotte Boat Club.
We wanted to continue the run/walk this year but due to concerns on social distancing and crowd gatherings dictated by government, we have decided to make the 2020 Blitzen the Dotte a virtual event.
What does that mean? You can still support the WBC rowing programs, get a run/walk in, and receive a Blitzen shirt without coming to downtown Wyandotte for the race.
Thank you for supporting WBC!
This is to notify WBC members that at the August 12, 2020 Board of Director’s meeting, the board unanimously voted to delay the club’s annual election scheduled for August 25th for one year and extend the term of the four board members who were up for election at this time.
This decision was based on current COVID executive orders and restrictions on group gatherings and the ability to hold a safe, confidential voting process. The board will meet on August 25th to elect club officers for the upcoming year.
As we navigate through this, the board is committed to returning back to normal operations as soon as we are allowed to by the government, and the United States Rowing Association.
The spring high school regattas hosted by the WBC are scheduled:
The Hebda Cup is set for Saturday, April 24th 2021
The Wy-Hi Regatta is set for Saturday, May 1st, 2021.
Both events are held in BASF Waterfront park along the Detroit River.
Last year’s races were cancelled, click on the links below for the last time the events were held.
