The Wyandotte Boat Club’s Board of Directors wishes good health and safety to all its members and families during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The 2020 rowing season has already seen the cancellation of the high school rowing schedule, and as we head into warmer weather the WBC’s board along with the Rowing Committee and coaches will develop programs that will meet the requirements established by the authorities and safety of participants as soon as we are legally able to do so. Our goal is to get participants of all ages rowing on the Detroit River once again. We will publish specific program details when available.
Due to issues from COVID-19 the 2020 Hebda Cup scheduled for Saturday, April 25th and the Wy-Hi Regatta originally scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd have been cancelled.
The 2021 Hebda Cup is scheduled for April 24, 2021 and the Wy-Hi Regatta is scheduled for May 1, 2021. We look forward to continuing these long standing races next year.
With all of the school districts closed that row out of the WBC, the 1st floor weight room, erg room, and locker room are all empty, as teams are not allowed to practice during this closure.
The rowing committee and Board of Directors are taking this time to ensure the facilities are clean and tightening up the cleaning protocols in the workout areas moving forward.
Each spring the WBC hosts two high school rowing regattas, the Hebda Cup and Wy-Hi Regatta. These events are scheduled the last Saturday in April and first Saturday in May. Since these events are still weeks away, we currently plan on moving forward with these events unless conditions warrant changes.
The WBC is committed to the safety of all athletes, coaches, and club administrators and will continue to monitor the situation and make decisions and actions based on the ever changing environment.
President of the WBC, Don Ukrainec has announced the appointment of Scott Sitek as the WBC Head Club Coach for 2020. Scott will direct and oversee the club’s rowing program and activities.
